About us a a group

The Tarka Valley Railway Group was formed in 2008 to preserve what remained of the railway at Torrington and to hopefully work to begin an extension of the line back towards Bideford. Planning approved for Phase 1 of extension plans was received in 2013 and negotiations to lease the required land from Devon County Council began in earnest.

It was realised that access to heritage lottery type funding would be required to finance the extension and in 2015 plans were drawn up to convert the group into charitable incorporated organisation. This was achieved in July 2015 when TARKA VALLEY RAILWAY C.I.O.  was granted.
